When the peasants and farmers went to the market, their young children were tied up and dragged along, which was indeed a sad sight.

乡曲之中，稚子听命而学者，亦顷刻间而皆已。当时教坊之内无闻之音。处之不胜其苦；泣吁涕唾而俱。然便达奇处；比年间，凭高垣而叹也。“罹天之忌，检世之谮”。如斯而已。

In the villages, the young children obediently followed the decree and stopped imitating adults in no time. The sounds of wailing and crying could be heard everywhere, and the teaching halls became silent. The suffering was beyond description; tears and saliva flowed together.
